Kindergarten had a ball joining Jamie Oliver and children in different parts of the world in making 'Squash It Sandwiches' for Food Revolution Day on May 15. We chopped, ripped, wrapped, bashed, spread, munched, crunched and moved as part of a worldwide movement to educate students and families on the benefits of eating well. You can find out more about Food Revolution Day here. Check out our video below of the whole process last Friday. A big thank you goes out to Mrs Dunn for making it all happen... and to our Kindergarten children who not only became chefs for the day, but risk-takers in trying something new! The Kindergarten classes worked hard on their entries for the 'River of Art' festival. The theme this year was 'Under the Sea.' KB and KD combined their talents to create an under water scene. First they created a background by pasting different textures and shades of blue paper in strips, then added a variety of sea creatures. The fish and jelly fish were 2D shapes decorated with collage materials and the octopus and baby octopus were made by rolling a sheet of 2D paper to make a 3D cylinder shape. KB and KD were very pleased with the result. KW were lead by one of their talented parents, Kimberly Love, to create a school of fish from used soft drink and water bottles. Kimberly used a heat gun to shrink part of the bottle to create a tail, then each student painted and decorated a fish. When they were dry, they were threaded and hung onto a large stick to create a school of fish. If you have a chance, pop by the Moruya Showgrounds to take a look at the Waterways Museum where the artwork is displayed. Broulee Public School has quite a few pieces on display, along with installations by other schools and professional artists. It truly is an AMAZING display, with interactive fun for the kids as well. The exhibition is opened from 10am - 4pm until Sunday the 24th of May and is well worth the visit! Last Friday we traveled to Gundary Oval in Moruya for our AFL Skills day. During the day we were taken through 10 different activities to practice a variety of skills used in playing AFL. We balanced, kicked, hand passed, dodged, ran and jumped. We had a wonderful day. Please see some of the activities on the photos below. We were very proud of our Kindergarten students for participating respectfully in the ANZAC Day assembly at school last week. Some of them also made it to the march at Tomakin on Saturday morning, which also was a wonderful experience. You may have seen the peace doves displayed in the assembly hall. The doves bear the name of a local enlisted into World War 1. There were 377 men honoured in our ANZAC Assembly marking 100 years since the landing at Gallipoli in 1915... a visual symbol to all the students of the number of people involved from the area and hence the number of families effected by war. Each member of the school community coloured their own dove to be displayed. |
