Our two local pre-schools have been popping in for a visit on Tuesdays and Fridays. They have been finding shapes in the playground, reading stories in the iCentre and playing Indigenous games. Today we played on the equipment, looked for fairies in the fairy garden and had a go at the weaving frames. Year 5 students have been helping our visitors, and are eagerly awaiting Term 4's transition program where they will have their own buddy to support. Last term, KW were inspired by the Donald Crews book "Ten Black Dots" to explore the number ten in a different way. Take a look at their ideas and innovation on the text... A big thank you goes out to our wonderful P & C who have raised funds for us to buy some wonderful new equipment. As you can see from the photos below, they have all been a big hit! We are currently working on a science unit exploring how things move. The unit is called 'Move It!'. So far we have looked at 3D shapes and classified them according to whether they slide, roll or spin. We have looked at vehicles and decided which features help them to roll or slide. Today we have had a closer look at wheels to discover how they are attached and which parts spin and which are static. Next week the students will be designing their own vehicle using recycled materials. They may choose to design a vehicle that rolls or one that slides. If possible please discuss the items they could use to construct their vehicle and help your child to gather the recycled materials they will need. Please find some pictures below to inspire your child. Thank you.
During measurement this week Kindergarten students tested out their knowledge of 2D shape names and their language skills. We played 'barrier games' using 2D shapes. Each student had the same 2D shapes and took turns to describe to their partner how to position the shapes to create the same 'picture' as they had. Students weren't allowed to look at their partners work until the end of their explanation; some students sat back to back and others used an alphabet sheet to create a barrier. Have a look at the slide show below to see how well they did. Today we had great fun joining Mrs Quinton for 'Mindful Movement'. The 'Mindful Movement' program is a wonderful way for children to learn that our thoughts, feelings and actions affect those around us. It gives children a fun and safe outlet to express their thoughts and feelings as well as giving them tools they can use for life. During the session we explored different ways to move our bodies and discovered how to fill our minds with strong and happy thoughts. We learned to 'snake and shake', 'slap and tap' and to 'wiggle and giggle.'
Thank you Mrs Quinton for an afternoon full of fun. |
